Wessex Peerless Auto CLS

The Peerless design concept takes its inspiration from the watch designs of the grand masters of horology from bygone era's and combines it with the unique design approach of Wessex.

 

Dial:

In designing the dials for The Peerless collection we wanted to achieve real depth to the dial, not just the illusion of depth. Not being happy with the results of applied chapter ring, sub-dial and banners, the result being too generic and not in keeping with our design philosophy, we decided to go for the layered dial that adorns the final product.

 

The dial is in fact made up of two separate dials, each painstakingly hand-crafted at our Wiltshire workshop. The base dial featuring a beautifully machined and hand finished guilloché, with the top dial meticulously cut away to form the chapter ring, leaving multiple windows to view the beautiful guilloché beneath. The index and roman numerals are engraved and hand painted, before we, again by hand, apply the final brushed finish.

 

The base dial of the auto CLS features a guilloché that is unique to Wessex that we call 'Spiro' diamond, which starts linear at the centre and diminishes as it reaches the outer dial. The area around the centre is engraved with 'Handmade in England' and the Wessex Watches Cross Flory, which is then hand-painted. To finish, the base is then polished to contrast with the brushed top dial.

 

The top dial for the auto CLS is cut to form a cushion shaped index ring, reflecting the outer case shape.

 

 

Case:

The beautiful 'cushion' style case for the Auto CLS is Swiss made and precision milled from solid block 316L stainless steel (surgical grade) with brushed sides and polished bezel. It features a double domed sapphire crystal with AR coating to the front and a flat sapphire crystal to the rear exhibition window.

 

Movement:

The choice of the STP 1-11 for the automatic was a no-brainer, in terms of finish, build quality and specification it is second to none in its class.

Beautifully decorated, perlage finished plates and bridges, a Côtes de Genève finished rotor and blued screws greet you when you look through the rear exhibition window.

Internally the movement features a Nivarox balance spring, Nivaflex NM barrel spring, and Incabloc shock protection.

Running at 28,000 vph and factory regulated in 5 positions (COSC criteria), with final regulation performed by Wessex, you are looking at a movement that performs to chronometer standards!

 

The watch is completed with Swiss made blue Brequet style (eccentric moon) hour and minute hands with an orange seconds hand, and a handmade italian calf leather strap.

 

Each Peerless watch is assembled, regulated and tested by us at Wessex in our Wiltshire workshop.
